Abstract

Issue 1(10) includes articles of the first annual conference of the Interdisciplinary Central-European Seminar "A Day in the Calendar: Holidays and Commemorations as a Tool for National Consolidation in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe From the Nineteenth to the Twenty-First Centuries" (2017). The authors focus on holidays and commemorations as a special case of the "invention of tradition", the unification of modern nations around recurring actions of a symbolic nature. On the material of titular nations and national minorities, the production, dissemination and adoption of commemorative practices in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe are examined in a comparative and interdisciplinary way.
